If you were at my breakout session at Orange Conference 2019 or have read my post, Sustainable Church pt. 2 – Ministry Structures, chances are good that you’ve got a number of staffing structure questions.

Me and my friend Kenny Conley field a bunch of those questions in the video below.  Check it out!  If you want to know exactly where we’re going, scroll down to see the video outline.

Also, if you’re beginning to think that some of your team’s problems could be solved by thinking structurally, we’ve got a brand new online course starting soon called Rethink Staff Structure.  We’ll cover all the basics and even help you begin to create a plan to implement some exciting new changes in your context.

The course is on-demand, so go through it at your own pace.  You can gain access as early as June 3rd.  Register before May 28th, however, and get over $300 in bonuses.  Don’t miss those!  Find our course, and many others, at ministryboost.org.

Video outline

3:52 – What did we all talk about at OC19?  Quick recap here.

12:25 – Does your whole staff structure have to be divided in the same way?  For example, if we choose to divide up roles based on function, do all roles everywhere in the organization need to be functional or can different parts of the organizational chart be divided up differently?

16:42 – You mentioned that the average staffing ratio is one full-time-equivalent staff member for every 75 kids in attendance.  Where is that stat from and what is the ratio for student ministries?  Is this number a goal to shoot for?

21:39 – What does “function-based” staffing actually look like in a church ministry setting?

32:18 – Is it necessary to rethink your structure every time you make a new hire?

34:51 – Scenario-based question: We are hiring a Nextgen role to oversee 175 kids and students (80% kids heavy). We are a volunteer-run campus. Is this the right hire?

42:12 – If you move away from an age-based structure, how do you address the concern from leadership & parents that there is no longer one individual they can go to for info/questions/concerns for each particular age-based ministry?  Who takes the pastoral care needs, shepherding, counseling, etc. of each age group?

Didn’t get all your staffing structure questions answered?  Feel free to reach out and ask me directly.  Or, sign up for the new course by clicking on the banner below!
